To the southwest of Baraloba, past the forests west of Eagle Hills and the old mines there, Beerborram rises some two thousand feet out of the woods. The tributaries that come together along the forest paths grow into what is called the Lost River, which flow into one of several large caves that dot the foot of Beerborram. Atop the mount sits an old watchtower the locals call the Harpy Tower due to the clamor of harpies that have claimed it for their roost; the exact origin of this structure is unknown, as it does not match the old giant tower ruins found around Baraloba and elsewhere nearby along the Hewbank and into the badlands north of town.
On the far western face of Beerborram is the ruins of Bryn Mynnyd, nowadays known more commonly as the Necropolis of Bryn Mynnyd, an ancient city dug into the side of the old mountain. The ruins of Bryn Mynnyd date back untold ages, and the city has been looted repeatedly by adventurers of all stripes. In the end, all that’s left is a few farmers who have moved back into the ruins to eke out a living away from the nearby town, though rumors hold that a death cult also travels through the ruins to get to their temple deep beneath Beerborram.
On the southeastern approach to Beerborram, there’s a valley that is avoided by sensible people and even adventurers (who are notoriously not in the sensible category most of the time) because it is home to a Stone Giant warlock of immense girth and supposedly immense power. His citadel is carved into the mountain, and regular trade caravans run here to meet his appetite for food and drink to complement his own herding operations that provide him with most of his meat. After all, keeping these giants fed and getting paid for it is a lot more appealing to most than having a kingdom of stone giants and assorted kin trampling around the area looking for free food.
Recent months have seen increased raids by goblins and rat-folk on several of the smaller villages and communities west of Baraloba, and even some sightings near the mines in Eagle Hills just south of New Baraloba specifically; evidence suggests these incursions are coming out of the caves under Beerborram. Townsfolk and the merchant consortium petitioned the mayor to do something about it, but Mayor Evans and Reeve Redding only have the manpower to keep the New and Upper Baraloba safe; thus, Consortium Leader Ellis sent word to the Explorer’s Society headquarters in Moondarrow. Several weeks ago, Master Horne arrived and set up a chapter in New Baraloba and has begun recruiting intrepid folk to help cull these robbers…
