Baraloba is two mid-sized towns – New Baraloba and Upper Baraloba. Upper Baraloba is a fishing and farming village that sees occasional river trade along the Hewbank river where it joins with a tributary that runs past New Baraloba after coming down from the Eagle Hills. New Baraloba is also a farming community with a few more options for trade because of their position on the ford of the local trade road. Looming behind the town, seemingly half sunken into a farmer’s fields, is an old watch tower of immense size, built by hill giants several hundred years ago and now more a curiosity and waypoint than a fortification. It was used for years to mark where to leave the trade road to find the mines in Eagle Hills. Northwest of both villages is the Honeyed Forest – a forest known for the masses of bees that live within it and the giant flowers that are said to grow there a few hours walk deeper into the trees from the villages.
There are several shrines to the Gods and their saints in New Baraloba:
Val (Yllin Dryvis, Thyll Hylacae), Ord (all three), Kul (all three), Adun (Gaed), Salorna (Draighen)
Master Rhythylthin, priest of Val
Master Omde, priest of Ord
Mistress Umog, protector of Kul
Hamish Knight, blessed of Adun
Lily Whelan, light of Salorna
Important Organizations, Factions, Shops and People:
There is a local merchant consortium made up of the ferry operator, local farmers and fishmongers, the butcher, and the carters.
Milla Ellis (Ferry Owner, current Leader of the Consortium)
Kai Vinson (butcher)
Caleb Fry (speaks for the fishermen & fishmongers)
Harrison Porter (carters)
Jon Tanner (speaks for the farmers)
As noted, several weeks ago a chapter of the Explorer's society was opened in New Baraloba at the behest of Consortium Leader Ellis. The organization is still settling into their new lodgings.
Maxin Horne
Also, the local architect, masons, and carpenters have recently unionized as a polite opposition to the power of the Consortium.
Patrick Stone (Mason)
Connor Pearce (Carpenter)
Isaac Wright (Architect)
The mayor is a man named Aidan Evans. Alongside the reeve, Jaxon Redding, and the guardsmen, they work to maintain order in the towns and protect the citizens from any violence from without or within.
Outside both the Consortium and the Tradesmen's Union, Palmer Wheelwright, the local blacksmith, Ethan Graham, who owns the mill and the bakery, and Jasper Wodensen, who operates the sawmill and employs most of the woodsmen in the town, work to remain outside of the influences of the two larger economic powers.
Lastly, the Marching Tankard Coaching Inn is Baraloba's inn and tavern. While the Tankard’s history goes back a few generations, the current ownership brought it up to the standards it holds today. In his years as a roadwarden, Gunter Grohl saw the Tankard as his perfect retirement spot – a nice sturdy compound & inn, far enough off the beaten track that it doesn’t get too busy or crowded, but still bringing in enough traffic to not become a money-sink. So when a windfall came his way in his late 30s, he bought the establishment and has happily settled in.
